Report from the Directors
As we begin 2009 it is an apt time to review the accomplishments and challenges of the previous year:
Highlights of our annual report include the following:
- The General Treatment Center is flourishing.
- The Trauma Treatment Center is active.
- Our Trauma Treatment course was offered and went well this fall.
- Our Colloquia in the past year were quite successful.
- We graduated 6 students in 2008 from our two training programs.
- Our Gala musical event in the spring was a great success and set a precedent for a yearly gala fundraising event; the 2009 Gala is scheduled for March 29.
- While we did not enroll a full class for the Certificate Program in Psychoanalysis this past fall, we have three students in our One Year Psychotherapy Program and an additional two students have joined them and plan to begin the Certificate Program in Psychoanalysis in Fall 2009.
- Financially, while times have been challenging for us, as the world struggles with a global economic downturn, and a large and unexpected expense was paying the Institute’s share of the LMSW Coalition lawyer’s fee to assist in resolving the LCSW licensing issue, our fundraising continues to expand. We remain financially balanced, if not wholly secure.
- The LGBTQ Initiative met and held a number of events during the year. This culminated in their becoming formally recognized as a standing committee by the Institute’s Executive Committee, with Cindy Brink and Bob Najjar named as its Chairpersons.
- The Trauma Treatment Center proposed an additional course, to be part 2 of the regular Trauma course; this was approved by the Executive Committee and will be offered beginning next academic year.
In addition the Institute continues in all of its activities, most importantly, the teaching and training of our candidates.
